"Welcome to the 87th Oscars. Tonight, we honor Hollywood's best and whitest," host Neil Patrick Harris said at the start of Sunday's show.And then, after a beat: "Sorry. . . brightest."That was one of Harris' few incisive jokes, and it was funny -- though mostly cringe-worthy -- because it was true. It had been more than a decade since the Academy selected such a homogenous slate of contenders, including the all-white slate of 20 stars competing for acting awards.
